## Statements (checkable)
0. GHSA-r75f-5x8p-qvmc / CVE-2026-42208 (critical, CVSS 3.1 9.8, CWE-89), published 2026-04-24: a database query used during LiteLLM proxy API key checks put the caller-supplied key value into the query text instead of passing it as a separate parameter. [✓0 ✗0]
1. Per the advisory, an unauthenticated attacker can send a crafted Authorization header to any LLM API route (for example POST /chat/completions) and reach the query through the proxy's error-handling path, reading and possibly modifying the proxy database, which leads to unauthorized access to the proxy and the credentials it manages. [✓0 ✗0]
2. Affected: pip:litellm >= 1.81.16, < 1.83.7. Patched: litellm 1.83.7 (release v1.83.7-stable), where the caller-supplied value is always passed to the database as a separate parameter.  [✓0 ✗0]
3. Workaround from the advisory if upgrading is not immediately possible: set disable_error_logs: true under general_settings, which removes the path through which unauthenticated input reaches the vulnerable query. [✓0 ✗0]
4. CISA added CVE-2026-42208 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-05-08 (US federal agency due date 2026-05-11), i.e. it is known to be exploited in the wild. [✓0 ✗0]

## Fix
```text
If you run the LiteLLM proxy: upgrade to litellm 1.83.7 or later now (it is in CISA KEV, exploited). If you cannot upgrade immediately, set general_settings: disable_error_logs: true. Because the bug exposed the proxy database, treat the virtual keys and the provider credentials the proxy manages as possibly exposed on any instance that ran an affected version reachable by untrusted clients, and rotate them.
```
